I want to provide a fair and accurate account of my experience with Robert A. Lees and Associates. To start, they did ultimately help achieve a favorable outcome in my matter, and I recognize the effort that went into that result. That said, there were several concerns throughout the representation, primarily related to communication, documentation, and billing clarity. Early in my license matter, I personally had to request an extension for my response because I never received confirmation that it had been submitted, despite being told multiple times that it had been handled. That created avoidable stress during a time-sensitive process. I also requested on multiple occasions to be copied on correspondence with the Board so I could stay informed. This was not consistently done, which made it difficult to track the status of my case and contributed to confusion. At one point, due to these issues, I raised concerns directly with the firm regarding whether my expectations around communication and fiduciary responsibility were being met. Billing was another area of concern. I received two separate “final” invoices stating that my balance had been satisfied. Months later, I was issued a third bill indicating there were three matters handled. This was unexpected, as I had paid two retainers and had been advised that any additional matter would be rolled into the existing representation. The later billing did not align with my understanding of the prior agreement. I did meet with Bob to discuss these concerns, and during that conversation, he agreed to provide a discount on my bill. However, that adjustment was not ultimately applied, with the explanation that my contract rate through malpractice insurance limited the discount that could be offered. While the overall outcome of my case was favorable, there was still impact to my license, and the process itself was more stressful than it needed to be. Based on my experience, I would strongly encourage future clients to request written confirmation of all filings, ensure they are included in all correspondence, and obtain clear, detailed billing expectations in writing at the outset.
