We initially had a very positive consultation regarding a Lady Bird Deed and a Third-Party Special Needs Trust. During our meeting, the attorney advised that the contracts would be emailed to us the following day so we could move forward with our deposit and services. Unfortunately, it has now been over a week with no follow-up. Multiple phone calls and emails have gone unanswered other than being told the attorney is “in trial” and staff is unsure when we will receive the documents. The people answering the phones have also not been very helpful. When I politely asked if they had any idea how long the trial might last or when we could realistically expect communication, the response given was simply that “he has over 100 clients.” That response came across dismissive rather than helpful. We completely understand attorneys can have demanding schedules, especially when involved in trial work, but communication and follow-through are extremely important especially when clients are ready to proceed and entrust important family and estate planning matters to a firm. Most importantly, don’t tell potential clients you are going to email documents the following day if you have no intention of doing so. Setting expectations and then disappearing reflects poorly on the professionalism of the firm. At this point, the lack of responsiveness and communication has been disappointing and we will be going to another firm. Update: Responding 4 months later reflects an accurate description of what I dealt it.
