This review is based on one consultation with Attorney Gabriela Ferreira specifically, not the firm as a whole. I came to the consultation well prepared. I had emailed Attorney Ferreira a detailed case briefing memo, a copy of our active Temporary Restraining Order, and all supporting documents days in advance. She joined ten minutes late and opened by asking, “Why hasn’t the restraining order been filed?” The TRO had already been sent to her. She continued asking basic questions — names, case number, fact patterns — that were all in the materials. When I tried to walk her through a summary, she asked me to slow down because she was hearing the case for the first time. The first twenty minutes were supposed to be free, with the remainder billed at $450/hour. The meeting was only scheduled for one hour. With ten minutes left, she told us she had another client at 4 PM, despite the fact that we hadn’t made meaningful progress on any substantive issue. When I respectfully raised my concern that she may not have had a chance to review the materials, she became defensive, insisted she had reviewed everything, and reminded me she had twenty years of experience — contradicting what she’d said earlier in the meeting. My mother’s case is serious — domestic violence, custody of a minor, immigration considerations. Other attorneys we’ve spoken with engaged substantively from the first call. The contrast was stark. I’m sharing this so that other domestic violence survivors — particularly Spanish-speaking families seeking attorneys who treat their cases with the seriousness and preparation they require — can make informed decisions before scheduling a consultation.
