I don’t write many reviews for professional service providers but I felt compelled to describe my experience working with Shane. Legal professionals, especially litigation specialists, are a necessary evil. As business owners, we don’t want to be in the business of working with them but are forced to on occasion. My goal from day one of my trademark cancellation proceeding was to settle with the plaintiff. However I was prepared to defend my mark until the end knowing it would come at the cost of time and significant money. I believe herein lies the dilemma of self-interest for some legal professionals. As soon as a case is resolved their work is done, including their legal fees. We’ve said “surgeons like to operate” on several occasions in reference to the opposing counsel in our case perhaps not working in the best interests of their client. This is where Shane differentiated himself to me. He understood my desire to settle this case, was open to me communicating directly with the opposing party on several business-focused calls, and successfully used strategic tact to protect our mark and negotiate a very effective co-existence agreement between the parties (written in our favor to protect our future business interests). Many attorneys may have advised their client to “fight to the end”, do not talk with the other party, and drag the case out. But Shane understood our desired path from a strategic business standpoint, mitigated legal fees, and resolved our case beautifully. His communications were professional and prompt. He was available to chat by phone and video conference in a timely manner throughout the case and provided guidance before my business calls. Not to mention Shane is very likable. Results aside, it’s a pleasure to work with people you enjoy working with and Shane is definitley one of those people. I highly recommend working with Shane and Rumbaugh Law. 6 out of 5 stars.
